Marilyn's travels are taking her back to the wild and icy shores of Glacier Bay Alaska. She will be on board the Sea Wolf, a 94 foot tour boat, a 16 passenger boat equiped to take travelers into the heart of this spectacular National Park. The Sea Wolf's size allows close viewing of wildlife as it sails into the arms of the glaciers waterways, carved out by the ancient passage of ice. The previous trip was in May when the snow was still falling and the shore was still white in the grip of late winter. Wildlife seek the shore at this time of year looking for food in the tidal zone. A wolverine hurries furtively over the rocks hardly stopping to search for food. Imagine kayaking across a bay, small pieces of brash ice bumping up against your hull. As the glacier calves a massive chunk of blue ice, it falls with a deep grumble into the black water. The kayak rocks on the swell and you can hear the whisper of ice all around you as it warms and melts in the sun. Over head a bald eagle soars, banking close to the cliffs that the kittiwakes are nesting on, they screech in response and fly in a swirl off the cliff and over the water. The air is filled with their cries and the flutter of white wings.
